PBL – The Smash That Shook Indian Badminton

The Premier Badminton League (PBL) isn’t just a tournament; it’s India’s game-changer in professional badminton. Launched in 2016, the PBL transformed the sport from indoor halls to primetime broadcasts, elevating shuttle showdowns into franchise-fuelled spectacles. With world-class talent, city-based teams, and edge-of-the-seat ties, the PBL serves up drama, skill, and national pride in every rally.

Before 2016, badminton in India thrived on individual success stories. But PBL changed that by bringing in a franchise-based format similar to the IPL. The league introduced fast-paced team battles, celebrity owners, high-stakes auctions, and global icons, all to make badminton a household sport.

Players like P.V. Sindhu, Kidambi Srikanth, Saina Nehwal, and Carolina Marin brought their international flair to Indian courts, while city-based teams like Bengaluru Raptors and Hyderabad Hunters gave fans hometown heroes to root for.
